Foster Zimmerman Architecture is a full service architecture firm, specializing in custom residential design with a focus on client satisfaction. Our passion is the creation of homes for our clients that are timeless, comfortable, and beautiful. We pride ourselves on our commitment to high quality architecture, with a diverse portfolio of project types and architectural styles. We appreciate the warmth, scale, and charm of traditional aesthetics and understand the importance of incorporating modern features to meet present-day needs.
Foster Zimmerman Architecture began as Richard Foster Architects in 1996, and took its current name when Patrick Zimmerman joined Richard Foster as partner. Our work has been featured in numerous publications, including Home and Design Portfolio's Top 100 Designers in D.C., Modern Farmhouse Magazine, Washington Spaces Magazine, Tuscan Style Magazine, and Dream Homes of Greater Washington.
PROCESS
It is our desire to design homes that reflect the personality and aesthetic preferences of their owners, while conveying a sense of timelessness, authenticity, and appropriateness for the their site. Our expertise and understanding of both architecture and construction allows us to guide our clients through the complex design process in a hands-on way. We value the collaboration between client, architect, contractor, and other design disciplines to ensure a quality project that exceeds the clients' expectations while respecting their budget. Throughout our entire design process we engage with the clients to ensure that all the client's expectations are met. In addition to the traditional 2-D drawing types of floor plans, elevations, and sections, our design process always includes 3-D computer modeling which allows clients to easily visualize the concepts we are proposing. We provide varying levels of service and engagement throughout the design and building process to meet clients' needs and budgets.
PEOPLE
Owner and managing partner Richard Foster, Architect founded the firm in 1996 after serving as vice president of a residential development and construction firm for seven years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in architecture from Catholic University and has been licensed to practice architecture since 1984. In 2019 Richard was named the Designer's Choice award winner by Home and Design Magazine.
Partner Patrick Zimmerman, Architect joined the firm in 2014 and was named partner in 2021. He holds a Bachelor of Science in architecture from the University of Maryland and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Tennessee. He has been practicing since 2004 and obtained his license in 2017.
Senior Architect Daniela Martinez joined the firm in 2010. She holds a Bachelor of Science in architecture from the University of Maryland and a Master of Architecture degree from Illinois Institute of Technology. She has been practicing since 2004 and obtained her license in 2018.
